The calm waters of Ruby Lake - one of the warmest lakes in B.C. - are perfect for swimming and canoeing, as are many of the surrounding lakes, which are within easy driving distance of the resort.


Watch, kayak or dive the famous Skookumchuck rapids - one of the greatest natural shows in British Columbia. The trailhead to the park is just 10 minutes drive from the resort.


Kayak or sail the calm waters of the Georgia Strait. You can launch (or sail) from any of the nearby coastal towns, using your own boat or a private charter.

View breathtaking scenery from one of the countless places to hike and bike in the surrounding area. Walk one of the trails on the resort or explore further afield.


There are several excellent golf courses nearby the resort, offering challenging and scenic golf.


Horseback riding can be accessed 5 minutes from the resort, at a family-run ranch.


The Sunshine Coast is home to one of the highest per-capita ratio of artists, crafters and talented artisans in Canada. Use the resort as a base to explore the Coast’s art, crafts, performance and writing.


Aboriginal people have lived in the Sechelt area for at least 3000 years, and the history and culture of First Nations people can be explored in several museums in the area.

Bird watching is one of the most popular year round past times. Our centrepiece Bird Sanctuary at Ruby Lake Resort boasts one of the largest concentration of wood ducks on the Sunshine Coast.


Additionally, we have over 80 different species of birds, which over the four seasons call Ruby Lake their home, and one of the largest concentrations of congregated nest sites in the area.

Scuba dive in the number 2 dive spot in the world - some excellent and rarely visited dive sites can be reached from nearby Pender Harbour.


Uniquely blessed with easy access to both salt water ocean and fresh water lakes, the fishing at Ruby Lake and in the surrounding area is also excellent.


Ruby Creek, which feeds Ruby Lake is a great place to view salmon spawning in the fall.

The resort’s centrepiece - the Bird Sanctuary - is a great place to view some of the 80 species of birds that call Ruby Lake their home over the four seasons. The resort is famous for its efforts to conserve Wood Ducks and our results can be celebrated and enjoyed during the annual Wood Duck & Wilderness Festival which is held at the resort.

Adjacent to Ruby Lake Resort lies the Iris Griffith Field Studies and Interpretive Centre.


The Cogrossi family granted the Lagoon Society occupancy rights to 20 acres of their marsh and wetland, on which a $1,000,000 log home was constructed.


This structure houses displays, workshops, aquariums and a large ongoing project to build 5 ponds on the marshy areas with intricate cedar walkways and an observatory.

This area is extremely diverse both in terms of the large variety of habitats and the abundance of different animals and plants.

This part of the world is considered to have one of the darkest parts of the sky in the world; therefore plans for a powerful telescope are in place to allow viewing of the magnificent starry sky.
